Metals
GCR Transitional Massä Drivers and Fairway Metals inherit their traditional appearance and penetrating ball flight from the successful woods of a bygone era and establish a new benchmark in playability, feel and aesthetics for metal woods. Transitional Massä Metals share a number of significant design characteristics throughout the range, which includes two drivers and three fairway metals. All Transitional Massä Metals feature a clean, classic pear shape appearance and technologically advanced bore-thru performance. Traditional hosel lengths bias weight toward the heel for superior trajectory and shot control and the bore-thru design creates a longer shaft insertion depth for stability at impact and maximum transfer of energy from club to ball. On the sole plate, the leading and trailing edges are bevelled and radiused, and slightly crowned in the centre to provide playability from all types of lies. While the design characteristics are constant, GCR Transitional Massä technology ensures that the similarities end there. The bodies of the two drivers are manufactured from a dynamic new aerospace steel formulation that allows maximisation of head size and strength. 450 Steel is almost 50% stronger than the steel traditionally used in metal woods and this strength allows for thinner walls, enabling both the club head and sweetspot to be larger and at 240 cc's, the club head on the 9.5o driver is the optimum size for overall playability. The #3, #5 and #7 metals are manufactured from 17.4 stainless steel in order to increase the mass in the smaller head designs. Having utilised Transitional Massä technology in metal selection and wall thickness of each model, tungsten weight plugs of varying density are strategically fitted to the rear heel and toe areas of each model and the perfectly located low centre of gravity produces the proper launch angle for penetrating trajectory. The tungsten mass is transitional in density and thickness to achieve the optimum playability in each metal; concentrated toward the heel in the drivers to promote a draw, and transitioning through the loft range to achieve maximum control of the centre of gravity, low and toward the rear of the club. Controlling the centre of gravity low in the club makes it easier to get the ball airborne quicker, and moving the mass toward the rear helps to hit the ball straighter. The rear mass utilises centrifugal force generated during the swing to square the club face at impact. With the centre of gravity behind the shaft axis, the extra weight at the rear of the club helps to force the club to swing around the shaft axis and square the face at impact.
